This workshop is organized by Bibliotheca Alexandrina on November 18th from 13:00- 15:00 (Jerba Hall) and will feature those major projects undertaken by the Bibliotheca in cooperation with different stakeholders towards the achievement of the global Information Society.
The main theme will be "Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Role in Building the Information Society". The discussions will focus on the following issues:
- Promoting Culture in the Digital World
- Bridging the Digital Divide
- Providing Arabic E-Content
- Building a Universal Digital Library
The workshop will be chaired by Dr Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Other eminent figures joining the workshop are:
- Dr Akhtar Badshah, Senior Director, Community Affairs World Wide, Microsoft Corporation
- Dr Alan Kay, a Senior Fellow at HP Labs, and Professor of Computer Science in several Universities
- Mr Andrew McLaughlin, Head of Google's Global Public Policy Team
